한국에서는 일리노이공과대학로 알려져 있는 Illinois Institute of Technology(이하 IIT)는 1890년 일리노이주의 시카고에서 설립된 Armour Institute가 1940년 Lewis Institute 와 합병 하면서 학교명을 IIT로 하여 현재에 이르고 있습니다. IIT는 이후 몇 차례의 계속 된 합병 등을 통하여 science, mathematics, engineering, psychology, design, business, law 분야와 관련된 8개의 단과대학으로 구성되어 있습니다. IIT는 학부 및 대학원 교육 과정을 비롯한 박사 학위를 수여하고 있으며, 점차 다양하고 복잡화된 지구촌에서 훌륭한 지도자로의 역할을 수행할 수 있도록 이끌고 있는 미국의 명문 사립대학 입니다.
